THE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY OF THE BAHAMAS (HSB) was formed in September 1983 by the late Sara Bardelmeier, who brought together a group of gardening enthusiasts who were interested in horticulture and sharing their knowledge with others. The HSB holds a current membership of approximately 140 persons. Monthly meetings are held on the 1st Saturday of each month at various members gardens. Dues are $25 Single and $30 Family membership and payable annually.
OBJECTIVES OF THE HORTICULTURE SOCIETY OF THE BAHAMAS 1. To bring together people who are interested in and want to become more knowledgeable about Horticulture. 2. To promote exchange of knowledge of Horticulture amongst members and from time to time, invite experts to share their knowledge and technique amongst us. 3. To help educate the interested public in the care and maintenance of trees and plants, thereby enhancing the beauty of our Islands. 4. To promote awareness of the natural beauty that surrounds us, including animals as well as plant life, thereby helping us to improve the quality of life in our Islands. 5. To promote Horticultural excellence among out members. 6. To undertake to stage a Horticulture Show by members from time to time to be opened for viewing by the general public. These shows will be for Horticulture displays ONLY. There will be no classes for artistic display, 7. To encourage the formation of satellite groups of clubs for those with special interest affiliated with the HSB for mutual interest such as: Special demonstrations: Speakers from abroad, Show purposes and other interests.
